The dyslexiaHELP Programme

The Solution to Dyslexia

dyslexiaHELP offers the programme, Davis Dyslexia Correction®, that empowers children and adults who experience difficulties with reading, writing, maths, language and attention. They gain new understanding of their personal thinking and perceptual processes; learn self-help methods for controlling perception, and skills for eliminating confusion.

This is a common sense approach based on the understanding of the strengths of the dyslexic mind and effectively combines an innovative teaching method with one to one learning to overcome dyslexia, ADD, and other problems.

The Davis Dyslexia Correction® Programme is a method of training dyslexics and others to control their sense of disorientation, which is responsible for their "dyslexic symptoms." For the programme to be effective, a person must be personally motivated and willing to improve some aspect of learning or school performance.

First:
The first step of the program is learning to turn off disorientation to focus the perceptions. An easily learned mental exercise allows dyslexics to accurately recognise printed symbols. In Orientation Counselling, the client is trained to align or orientate their brain's perceptions to what their senses register, for example: to ensure that the brain sees what the eyes see with no distortion.

Second:
Symbol Mastery, a stress-free way for dyslexics to learn the basics of written language. In our language, spoken and written, including mathematics, we utilise a great deal of symbols that have no visual representation. That is they cannot be associated with a three-dimensional object.

The most obvious cases of this are the letters of the alphabet and mathematical symbols, which, because they cannot be visualised, can cause the triggering of the dyslexic symptoms.

To overcome this clients model the symbols in clay, thereby making them three-dimensional.

There are also problems with a good many of the basic "sight' words. These are abstract words that do not form a picture in the mind This again triggers confusion and disorientation and causes lack of comprehension.

Students model the words and meaning in clay then visualises the and the brain is no longer confused by such 'meaningless' words.they no longer 'trigger' the dyslexic symptoms.

Third:
For dyslexic students who have never been able to read, a new approach that trains the student in left to right eye movement in reading, and helps them recognise letter groups as words.

Because each programme is tailored to meet the needs of each individual, each programme is unique.

Prior to the commencement of any programme, a meeting takes place with the client (and in the case of a minor, the parent/caregiver.) During the course of the meeting, I assess the client's suitability, needs and motivation. If the client has to travel a distance and a prior meeting is not possible, this assessment will be done on the first morning.

The outcome of the meeting is to determine the objectives and anticipated outcomes from a programme for a particular client; thereby largely determining the duration and much of the details of the programme.

It is essential that the client is well motivated because it is they who can solve their problems.

My role is not that of a teacher, although they will learn many new things, rather I show them the way to solve their dyslexic problems and encourage them in that task.

Support Training

Support persons must be here for support training and follow-up recommendations by the final afternoon.

Program Follow-up

Reviews are scheduled on an individual basis as needed.Support persons and the client are welcome to phone whenever there is any difficulty. The post-Program review sessions are for when there is a need to fully review any of the skills and techniques learned during the Programme.

What can I expect from the programme?

Clients leave the program with the tools of basic literacy—including:

Using the tools in every day life, as well as doing Davis Symbol Mastery® follow-up on trigger words, is necessary to ensure continued success with the program.
